Setting my daily routine

For some people having given a daily routine gives them some sense of being able to keep things under control. It also gives them an idea of how to plan and manage their time. They are better able to keep up good habits if they have some sort of routine.

For others, a routine feels confining and boring. They like to live spontaneously. They don't like to plan every aspect of their lives.

Which type of person are you? Which type of person am I? I asked myself those questions. I used to have a routine set up and I thought that I was stuck in a rut. So now I have little routine in my life and I feel like I am not getting anything done.

I find that making good habits and breaking bad habits is harder without being set into a routine. It is easier to live with a set up schedule for doing things. It makes accomplishing tasks easier. It makes planning my time easier.

And yet I find myself hating to be stuck in a routine schedule every day or every week.

I have to figure out a way to get my mind around the good reasons to have a plan and execute that plan everyday. I have to figure out a way to get back into the habit of doing things at certain times whether I want to or not.

For far too long, I have let my emotions and feelings dictate what I have done. It only set me into a path of depression that wasn't healthy for me. Because if I didn't feel like doing anything then I simply wouldn't do it. Until it got to the point where there was no other option but to do it. And I felt like if I didn't do it then things would simply get out of hand and then I would work myself into a bad feeling about ever doing anything at all.

Somewhere along the way I lost sight of why I did the things that I did. I lost the reason to get things done like I want to. I want to be the type of person who enjoys cleaning. I want to be the type of person who likes to get her house in order. I don't want to be the kind of person who comes across as lazy or unacceptable or unsuccessful.

And so I set about in my life to try to create new daily routines. I try to do some things at the same time every day to give myself a sense of getting things done. I have tried to make lists of things that I need to do. I have decided to take on the notion of getting things done that take under five minutes to do. That clears me up for other more important things.

I have set myself on a schedule to read at the same time every day, to check my email at the same time daily, to write at the same times, to get on social media at the same time everyday.

It has not been easy for me to stick to these routines because sometimes they become difficult for me. I have tried and I have not succeeded but I try again the next day. I don't give up. I know that eventually I will get to exactly where I want to be.

What makes your soul happy?

In the past six months, I have been on a true spiritual journey where I have been  trying to find myself - what I am and who I want to be. I have been trying to find what it is that I want to do with my life.

Sometimes I do not feel like I have grown at all until I spend time with people who say they see such a tremendous change in me, in my attitude, in my outlook, in my positive mindset. People who don't spend alot of time with me on a daily basis are probably more likely to see the changes in me than those I am around everyday.

I have become more confident, happier and healthier. People want to know what changed me, as if it is a pill that they can take and be changed overnight and it is not.

It has taken me a lot of time and effort and work to make the changes in my life that others see. But perhaps I can give others an inspiration or an insight into how they can go on their own journey and find more about themselves.

So perhaps that is where my passion lies. Perhaps helping other people is my calling. I have an affinity for working with people, for making conversation with perfect strangers, for making others feel at ease and comfortable.

Maybe in discussing my own journey and what I have experienced will help others to have some experiences of their own.

So that's where I shall begin. I have been a writer since I could first pick up a pen. I know that I can find a way to discuss my own life in an entertaining and rewarding way. I am sure that I will be able to make a difference, perhaps using only the power of my words. That would make my soul happy.

Negativity is contagious

Somehow I have found that people seem to enjoy my company. They find me positive and uplifting. My aunt recently told me that she loves being around me and that when I leave her she still feels good and motivated.

In our family, we have alot of Negative Nellys. The people who complain about everything and who make you feel worse when they're gone. They sit around telling you what you need to be doing and what you're not doing that's good enough. They complain about everything in their life and everything in your life too.

Judgmental and hypocritical, it can be difficult to stay positive when surrounded by the negativity. The reason being that negativity is contagious. We are programmed to think negatively anyway.

The best way that I found to decrease the negative thoughts in my mind has been through meditation and hypnosis recordings. I know that it sounds silly but when I had nothing else, I turned to God and to self help books.

Learning to be mindful right now and enjoy your life right now at this moment in time is very important to live a balanced life. No matter what is going on in your life right now, there is something that you can be grateful for. There is something that you can be glad of. And if there is nothing else then you can be glad that you woke up.

Life is what we make it. It is not a guarantee that you will be successful at every thing that you try to do. But it is a guarantee that you will not be if you don't even try.

Still working on my masterpiece

Recently I took a test to see what my calling is in life. The results showed me that I am supposed to be an inspiration to others. That's my calling in life.

I took another test to see what my vocation should be. The results showed that I should be a writer, which is what I have always wanted to be anyway.

I thought as a child that I would be a teacher, and as I grew up I thought that I wanted to be a lawyer. Then I thought somewhere around the 7th grade that I wanted to be a writer. In the 8th grade, I had to write a book for the talented and gifted program. The TAG teacher, along with my accelerated English teacher, said that I was a talented writer and they wouldn't be surprised if they found my books in a bookstore one day.

From then on I wrote ferociously. I had always been an avid reader since I was a small child. My grandmother says that before I had to take the test to see if I needed to go to kindergarten, I was already smarter than a second grader. (She also says that I was a beautiful child like Elizabeth Taylor, so I am not sure how much of that is true vs her bias.)

I made so high on the test that I didn't have to go to kindergarten. It wasn't required at that time. By second grade they were testing my IQ to see if I qualified for the talented and gifted program, which I got into without a problem. I remained in the accelerated and gifted programs until I graduated which I was able to do a year early due to having enough credits to graduate.

Even graduating a year early I was selected as one of the salutatorians of our class. I was surprised, thinking that surely the fact that I was graduating from the 11th grade would make me ineligible. I wasn't sure, but I had hoped. I didn't want to speak in front of a bunch of people at graduation.

But I did. And it wasn't that bad. I don't think that anyone even remembers my speech. I certainly don't.

I should have done more with my life because of those things but I did not do all that I wanted to do. I made mistakes along the way. But I survived and I am still working on my masterpiece.

We are surrounded by too much information while we search for wisdom

I am a nerd. I have alwaya been a nerd. I love to learn. I soak up information like a sponge.

In the technology age, we are surrounded by information. When I graduated high school, only 34% of American households had Internet access at their homes. Today, we walk around connected to the Internet nearly 24/7 through a phone more advanced and powerful than the first personal computer.

Our phones can tell us where to go, where we are, what we spend our time doing, when to be at a meeting, how many steps we take each day, and the answer to any questions we may have.

When I first realized that there was so much information in the palm of my hand I became mesmerized by all that information and all of the wonderful things that a smartphone could do. I love to follow technology and learn about new gadgets that are being developed.

Yet, in all of that information, have any of us actually become any wiser? Or do we still get our wisdom from things we experience first hand?

Do you learn more by keeping up with what everyone you know is up to at any given moment?

Or does having a place to interact with people that you know from the comfort of your own home only give you a sense of being social while still being too lazy to actually be around them?

There are things that adults told me years ago that I dismissed and had to learn the hard way. There are younger people that I talk to now and I tell them the exact same things that I was told and they dismiss me, only to come back later and say that I was right. Lol.

Are there some things that you just have to learn for yourself?

Are those things always involving relationships, friendships, sex, and love? Those are usually things that people have questions about but in the end, they still have to learn it through experiencing the feelings and thoughts themselves.

You can tell someone that someone else is not a good guy for them because of these reasons and lay those reasons out for them but what are the chances that they will actually listen to you? Most people might listen, but in the end, they would try to make a failing situation work with someone who is not good for them.

Sometimes maybe it is better to let people learn things on their own. Sometimes it is better to intervene.

The wisdom comes in knowing the difference.
